Dealing With College Homework In An Hour: Time-Management Tips

So you’ve got one hour to cram in your college homework, right? If this is the case, you will need to manage your time wisely. Here are some great time-management tips to help you on your way:

Find everything you need before you start.

Make sure that you have everything you need before you begin. If you only have an hour, you don’t want to spend fifteen minutes finding your textbooks, notes, handouts, library books, pens, paper etc. Be organized!

Be in an environment where you can focus.

It’s a tough challenge to do homework in an hour, so make sure you are working in a place where you can focus. If the whole hour is spent half-listening to your brother’s death metal music through the wall, you should find somewhere else to study. You could always do your work at a library.

Prioritize your subjects.

If you have homework from more than one subject, you should put them into priority order. If you are better at one subject than another, give yourself more time to do the one you’re not as confident about.

Prioritize the workload.

Whether it’s one subject or more, you will need to prioritize successfully in order to accomplish your task in an hour. So look through your work, put it into priority order and set a timetable for your hour’s work. Give yourself a time limit to accomplish each part.

Don’t be too hasty.

Don’t overlook anything in haste! Just because you are trying to accomplish doing your work quickly, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t think through each section or question. There’s no point in hurriedly doing your work if you end up getting it wrong!

Don’t put yourself under too much pressure.

Keep a cool head. The more pressure you put on yourself, the harder it will be to work and the more likely you are to get things wrong.

If you get stuck on something, move on.

If you find that you’re stuck on one thing and you’re going over your allotted time for it, then just move on to the next. Otherwise you could find that you suddenly have no time left to do the rest of your work.

Ask for help.

If you find that you are often trying to cram in homework into the short space of an hour, you may want to ask yourself why this is. To do the best you can on college work, you will need to spend time on it. So if you’re struggling for any reason, have a chat about it with your parents or teacher.
